Q6. How is i Light Marina Bay a sustainable light art festival?

Answer: The festival features a series of initiatives to encourage festival goers to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives under the i Light Sustainability programme. Please click here to view more details of our partner programmes and events.

All artworks showcased at the festival are conceptualised and produced with sustainability in mind through the use of recycled materials, biodegradable products and energy-efficient light bulbs. For example, Milk Bottle Cows by BP Loh is created with used plastic milk bottles collected from local cafes, while Transistible Plastic by Luzinterruptus is also created with used plastic bottles crowdsourced from the public and the business community.

Throughout the festival, the public can explore and learn more about the topic of sustainability by participating in a series of talks and workshops. The signature Switch Off, Turn Up campaign, held in conjunction with the festival, will continue to rally corporate organisations around Marina Bay and beyond to switch off non-essential lighting and turn up their air-conditioning temperatures to save energy.

The festival also provides a platform for sustainability initiatives such as Earth Hour and Singapore World Water Day, and takes an active role in working with event partners to incorporate sustainability elements into their programmes. For example, the Art-Zoo Inflatable Park allows visitors to learn more about the importance of conservation with its showcase of endangered and extinct species, while GastroBeats plays host to Sustainability Sundays at Terra Village which houses a community of crafters, designers and upcyclers, who come together to curate a unique selection of environmentally-friendly and socially-conscious products, as well as activities such as eco-maker workshops and Eco-Craft upcycling workshops.
